Copco was incorporated in 1983 and purchased most of C. O. Porter Machinery Co.'s assets. (The day after that agreement was signed, C. O. Porter filed for bankruptcy and was shortly dissolved.) Copco was, in some unclear manner, closely related to Tannewitz, Inc.: they were co-located, and Tannewitz seems to have been the major, perhaps only, reseller of Copco machines. But Tannewitz was not—at least directly—the owner of Copco, perhaps as a means of avoiding the product-liability litigation that had been at least partly responsible for C. O. Porter's demise.

In 1998, Copco, Inc., was dissolved. Manufacture of their products ceased. Some parts and service are available from Colonial Machinery Sales; see below.

Copco reportedly developed their own machine designs rather than buying the rights to any C. O. Porter products.
