This Tauco Combo was found on the local internet buy and sell list. According to the previous owner the combo was bought by his father in East London probably just after WW2. It was then taken to Umtata where it was extensively used by his father who was a builder. The machine apparently was moved about extensively which no doubt accounts for the poor state it was in when offered to me. The combination had damage to both trunnions, the fence was inoperative, the saw guard basket was missing, the micro set adjustment on the fence missing, the jointer shute missing, various knobs missing, the clamp rod knob sheared off, and plenty of rust, wear and tear.
The machine was dismantled completely and refurbished piece by piece. Where items were broken repairs were attempted. The fence was repaired, pictures shown. The broken trunnions prevent the tilting table from operating. However the combination is still operational. The motor tag was totally rsuted away all that is remaining are the numbers punched on the label. It looks like a Delta motor and 1 hp 1425 rpm. The combo was offered to a neighbour who bought it on seeing it. An interesting challenge in resuscitating an old work horse.
This saw jointer combo was sold to Anthony McComb September 2009.
