A gentleman drove this Edge Sander from Washington State to my shop in Oregon. He acquired it as scrap from Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. It was missing a platen and the tables. It was sight for sore eyes, rusted, but the base core was sound. Both idler roller drum bearings were shot. It had a 5 HP 3 phase motor which I replaced with a 5 HP 1750 single phase. I built tables for it and fashioned a platen out of steel that measures 6'-4"x 8 1/2"x 5/8" thick. I built a dust collection box on one end and added wheels.
I did sand my knuckles off one time until I built a fence on the table to aid in control. OUCH! Sanding skin is painful, much worst than a cut. It is a beast and gets the job done.
