Purchased from CL for $40.00. It appears to be the first of its kind here by scanning all the other Canedy-Otto entries. The number E29 is cast into the upright right after the Canady-Otto Mfg. The PO said this DP was owned by his wife's uncle who was an engineer and worked here in Milwaukee from 1928 to 37 at Evinrude and then from 1938 to 1973 at Cutler Hammer. He bought the DP thru one of those companies in the late 1930's. This was part of his estate.

It has the "E29" number cast into the upright and also has "BD 3" and "BD 2" cast into the two base pieces. It has a washing machine motor by General Electric and a 3 step leather belt and pulley system. 1/6th HP at 1725 RPM. The motor housing threads into the drive pulley and the pulley looks to be supported on bronze bushings. It makes a great whiring and light slapping sound when it is running. And like all good old machinery, the warm grease smell that comes from that motor is wonderful.

A light switch box mounted in the upright casting is used to turn it on and off. The wiring is in terrible condition and will need to be replaced. There is a great brass tag mounted on the front cover for the E L Essley Machinery Co. of Chicago.
This model seems to be unique in that it has the cover helmet over the front step pulley. It is not unique in that it has about a million holes drilled into the round table. The chuck is the original 3/8". Feedback from joe (jblenzi) on the forum confirms that it is a model 29 and the motor is probably a replacement for the OEM. Adding a motor made it a model E29. It does look like a good job but it is obvious in the motor adaptor plate mods and the upper support for the pulley bushing is not original. Joe says the ball ends on the feed handles are not original either. For additional info on this unit search the forum for #29 or Canedy-Otto.

I intend to restore it and can't wait to paint the letters on the casting a pretty gold color.
