My dad bought this machine in the 60’s while he was working for Chevron Canada in Vancouver. He bought it locally at the same time as he bought one for the company, that other is still out at the refinery in Burnaby. He gave it to me a few years ago and I use it in my shop now. He still comes over to use it once in a while too. It has the original paint, a very 60’s industrial combination of grey with white and black splatters on it. Dad attached a grinder to the column shortly after he got it, both the drill and the grinder have Leland Electric motors on them that I am sure were salvaged from gas pumps.
I remember as a kid, maybe 10 or 12 years old this was in my dad’s shop. He was away on a business trip and I somehow managed to knock it over. It was too heavy for me to lift back up, so I had to wait for him to come back and confess to my crime. He took it well, but I still remember being worried that he was going to be mad. Luckily I was ok, the machine was ok, and nothing else in the shop was damaged! Dad reminded of this story recently and we had a chuckle.
It is interesting as the tag on it says both “Canadian Blower and Forge” and “Canadian Buffalo” on it, and it has “Buffalo” cast into the side of it. As there are separate entries for each of these, I decided to list it here under Canadian blower and Forge but should note that similar drill presses are shown under the other name as well.
