I purchased this saw, along with several other machines, from a dealer in 2002. It was newly and fully restored at that time. To the best of my knowledge, it is basically original excepting the new Siemens starter and new Furnas switch. I do have a period-correct Furnas switch and mount for it that I purchased from Northfield. It came to me with the micrometer-adjust rack and pinion fence and one mitre gauge. It has a 5hp, 3phase, Louis Allis direct drive (DMD) motor with 1-1/8 inch arbor. Although I use a 16 inch diameter blade, it will take 14-18 inch blades. I love that the “up” and “down” arrows for the blade height are heavy, 3/16” plated steel, screwed on; not sheet metal or decals. Peg and I call it “the 1957 Chevy look”.
As some of you know, in addition to good machinery, one of the great things about Northfield is that they are still in business; continuous since 1920. It is a breeze to get the history on a machine, parts, repair details, virtually anything from Jeff Machacek and company. Put that on top of some of their machines being amongst the best ever made, and…….. it is easy to own them. I have a full-time, commission furniture shop where it is in use.
It was originally sold to the U.S. Navy, Port Hueneme, California, by Wagner Machinery Company in Los Angeles, CA. I am the happy owner and user now.
