A machinery dealer friend of mine, who I told about the auction, won the bid and gave it to me as thanks for all the GREAT deals he got on many other machines at that auction.
It sat for a few years in my garage begging to be restored. I started the restoration in mid Nov. 2006 and completed it mid April 2007.
There were many issues with restoring this machine but it was well worth it. It is a gorgeous saw and I love the lines of the J series.
Almost all of the major cast parts on this saw had the number 38 cast into them. Strangely enough, there is NO serial number on it. It does sport the letter J on the tilt gauge which I assume designates the model J. It has some numbers which may be the serial number. These are located on the top of the table on the right front corner and are 8445 2238. Interesting that the last 2 digits are 38 which matches the numbers on the cast parts.
I painted it Sherwin-Williams Graphite which is a stock color they carry. I wish I could take credit for finding this wonderful color but alas, I borrowed the paint from Dan Burt after looking at his wonderful Oliver restoration here;

Pictures of the restoration, for those that are interested, are located here;

This machine was sold by the "EBY Machinery Co. San Francisco Los Angeles".
I havent used it yet, except to test it to make sure it works!
