I recently had correspondence with Mike Hodges who is an ex Zimbabwean now living in Northampton Western Australia. He was interested in my Tauco (South Africa) machine postings. These are not the Tauco Export brand but rather the Tauco Manufacturing which was a company formed after the Rockwell plant in South Africa closed down. The name Tauco was resurrected in South Africa when the manufacturing side of the Rockwell plant was sold off to one, John Cubitt and he with permission from Rockwell USA was allowed to re use the name Tauco on his machines. This picture of Mike Hodges' Tauco lathe is the first of its kind I have seen although I knew of its existence. Bought in Durban South Africa, it was taken up to Bulawayo, Rhodesia ( now Zimbabwe) and when Mike emigrated the lathe was taken with him. Note on the machine tag that Tauco Manufacturing followed the Rockwell method of Model indication and serial number. The original round Tauco USA badge had a 3 vertical strip embellishment whilst the Tauco SA was plain.
