This is one of my favorite machines in my shop. Purchased it from a dealer in NC. It was almost complete except for the Unique Northfield Ships Handwheel with the Oak handles. It also had a bad drive side bearing and a broken rewelded tilt fence yoke. I tore it down and replaced the old cast iron steam pipe wheel someone had put on the northfield, do not know what happened to the origional ships wheel, but thanks to jeff at northfield he was able to provide me with a replacement which is the same as the org.Also did not like the fact that the yoke for the fence tilt was rewelded so replaced that also along with the new bearings Took the motor in to my motor guy and he said it was in great shape, it was the org.,Dooer motor supplied with the jointer new. This HD 16 has the org, Hatchet style knife guard which was changed sometime in the 70's to the rounder style of recent times. Its a four knife 4 1/2" dia head driven by a 3500 rpm motor belted to run at 4550 rpm's which gives me 18200, cuts per minute,with the 4 knife head. Makes for a super smooth finish. This Jointer was org purchased by the lyman Co of NC. Auctioned to the dealer and now is at home and happy in the wood shop in Ohio.
