Peter Stoltz's TAUCO Contractor's Tilting Arbor Saw / Jointer combo. Tauco were originally imported whole from the USA. When Rockwell Manufacturing and North American Rockwell amalgamated to form Rockwell International, the plant which Rockwell had established in Port Elizabeth was forced to close down. However the manufacturing side was sold as a going concern and the new owner was permitted to use the old Tauco name. The Tauco name by then had disappeared from the scene. The "new" Tauco machines were basically Rockwell machines but locally built and given the Tauco label. The larger pieces were cast locally in Port Elizabeth with the smaller items Rockwell stock. This one of Peter's is not in the best condition and I could not see the fence rails or fence that normally were fitted. The 6 inch jointer also needed attention, the fence not being in postion. It will be a shame if parts have strayed as they are wont to do. The one picture shows the TAUCO labels on the jointer and the saw. These differ from the original USA Export Tauco labels.
Late 2007, Peter Stoltz passed away and his wife remembering I had shown an interest in the machines, contacted me to ask whether I would be interested in purchasing. I bought this combination. I was lucky enough to find the saw fence and the two rails which were missing. The jointer blade guard could not be found and a copy was made out of wood. I refurbished the whole machine.
This machine sold February 2009.
