I decided to post this description and photos of my Northfield Deluxe 36" bandsaw, as it has the very large Reuland motor 900 Rpm and is only a 5HP motor. I have not seen a 5 hp motor this large before. Also this Northfield Deluxe has 27" under the guides as compared to the Std. Delux having only 24" under the guides. and yes there has been occasions when I have used the full height. I guess it goes to show you that if the machine has the capability sooner or later you will use what it can provide you. I had never used a 36' untill i recieved this northfield and it is truly a joy to cut with such a smooth running saw. In the photo you can see a red stripe of paint on the "C" casting and that is where Northfield adds the Extra height to the bandsaw. After talking to Jeff at northfield he said that they have made 36" under the guide on the Delux 36's in the past. I used to live in Minnesota only 50 miles from the factory and visited once. Its a really cool place and if you are ever in minn. do not pass it up.
In moving such a large bandsaw,it stands about 110" high, I came upon an Idea that really worked great. I took some 4x4"U:" channel steel 1/4" thick and welded another piece to it to give me a long captured channel and had slots milled into the face on 4 places to accept bolts to fasten the bandsaw to so that when picked up by a fork lift it could not tip over and also could be fastened securly to the trailer. The people who loaded the saw for me wanted to buy them off me but I declined and they said they were going to make a set themselves. I only have 30.00 each in them and have used them to move many machines since. I think you can see them in the photos. they are the steel skids right under the cast feet of the Northfield. I really like this 36 bandsaw. Good ARN hunting.
