Comments:
I purchased this beauty last year for the bargain sum of $100, including gouges and faceplates. It has a functional working span of 40" between centers, with a 10" diameter swing. It seems to be completely original and unmodified, right down to the stepped flat-belt drive. The motor within the housing is a Leland (Dayton Ohio) 3/4 horse, which looks original but unfortunately seems to under-power this machine. The back of the tailstock has the cast inscription "J G Blount Co Everett Mass Pat USA Apr 11 1900." Blount seems to have been in the lathe business right into the modern era, but on the Internet there is a surprising void of information about this company. I'd love to see an old catalog with retail prices.
