This motor came with a Delta 1460 wood lathe (46-460; SN 126-3501; made 1961.) I replaced it with a 3-phase motor+VFD when I rehabilitated the lathe in 2018, so only got around to cleaning up this 1/2 HP motor and replacing the bearings in 2023. This motor is discussed in comparison with a very similar 1/3 HP 62-413 Doerr motor on a 1958 Homecraft lathe at: https://www.owwm.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=242850.

Motors with these model numbers (62-653, 62-413) are listed in Delta catalogs from 1955 to 1973, but were made by several different manufactures, including Doerr, A.O. Smith, Marathon and perhaps others. I'm not sure if different makers supplied motors with the same model numbers at different times during those ~18 years, or if they supplied them concurrently.
