Electro Machines, Inc was formed about 1941 and was reorganized into the Doerr Electric Corporation in 1951. It was acquired by W. W. Grainger in 1969 for $20 million, then sold to Emerson in 1986 for $24.3 million.

Under both names—Electro Machines and Doerr—this maker was an OEM supplier to Delta Manufacturing Co.

  • From the 1973-04-18 Milwaukee Sentinel comes the following information, in an article about the formation of a new firm Doerr, Industries, by three brothers in the third generation of Doerrs involved in making electric motors.
    Doerr Electric, and affiliated companies in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Burr Oaks, Mich., were acquired by W. W. Gainger, Inc., in July of 1969 in an exchange of stock valued at $20 million at the time. ... Doerr Electric was founded in 1941 as Electro Machine Inc., but changed the name in 1951.
