I purchased this machine (fall 2021) from a industrial pattern maker's shop that had been making high-precision molded fiberglass and resin parts. The shop owner was closing for retirement and selling everything off. He claimed that in the 1980's he had partnered with another pattern-maker and the saw had belonged to the partner. When the partner left the business he also left behind the saw. When I called Tannewitz and provided the serial number, they informed me that the saw had been made in 1941 and was delivered to a trade school near Poughkeepsie, NY. I don't know how the saw was set up originally, but it is currently driven by a 2 HP 1ph Baldor motor. The power is transferred via a twin belt, driving a shaft mounted on pillow blocks, to the lower wheel. There is no foot or motor brake --the saw takes a good long while to spin down once the power is cut. The upper guide set seems original but with some newer parts -- Carter thrust bearing and graffalloy jaw pads. The lower guide block was an oversized Carter retrofit which I was able to exchange for newer, smaller Carter 200 series block with roller guides.
