Red Star 40-A Multiplex radial arm saw, circa 1950 or thereabouts. This is the Delta Rockwell version. I bought this saw on FB Marketplace for $150 at 10 p.m. on New Year's eve in the dark in the rain in a guy's garage and drove 40 miles home with it after looking it over with a flashlight. It was rough. It had come from a tool auction. It sort of ran but needed work. As of this post I am about 75% finished restoring it. The main problem is finding a 12" blade with a 3/4" arbor, or at least a 3/4" to 1" brass arbor spacer. I called Forrest: $400 to drill a 3/4" instead of a 1" hole and lead time 4 months... because they outsource the blade blanks and they come in with the 1" hole pre-punched. Ebay has metric spacers, not US imperial, and they are not correct. So I guess I have to make a custom spacer unless someone here knows of a source to get the correct blade or the correct reducing spacer. I want to put a finish-cut plywood blade on it to cross-cut cabinet carcass panels, and maybe to straight-saw rips in hardwood (instead of using a joiner). Any info. or help on a blade for it is much appreciated!!! The saw is very heavy and well built. The motor mount and wiring logistics were the main flaw of the design of this saw. Other than that it is precise, heavy duty, and very over-built. Unless someone ends up wanting to buy it, I am looking forward to a lot of use out of it. I repainted it in Massey Ferguson Gray after meticulously taking it all apart and repairing threads, cleaning, rewiring, etc., everything. One of the motor coils isn't wuite working right, so it is wired on the other coil for 120v. with a new start capacitor. It's very quiet and smooth. It will not be museum-quality, but a darn nice near-new functioning show-quality machine. Thanks!
