This is a Wilton 500S bullet vise I have owned since about 1982. I traded a guy a case of beer for it when we were both young. Its a beast, its 21 inches long even when closed. not sure what it weighs but I used to use it loose and would put it back on the floor when not needed. Time has caught up with me and its now too heavy to be lifting regularly so I bolted it to my bench. Over the years I have made jaws from Ipe wood, then I bought a set of hardened flat steel jaws I use mainly now. this vise has served me well as a vise and a press. I am undecided about taking it all apart , sandblasting and repainting it. While I like the idea of a nice restoration I also like the utility of this vise. I am not afraid to beat on it, grind near it etc. and since its not really in bad shape I think I will just leave it. as my dad used to say, its only original once.
I have read conflicting info on dates of manufacture. I am still not sure if it was made in Aug 1979 or that was the 5 year expiration of the warranty, When I got it, the vise didnt look a lot different than it does now, which makes me believe it had been in service more than a few years prior.
