This Post Drill Press was made around 1900 and still works! It is unique that it has a power down feature. The speed is controled by a wing nut and cam mechanism that drives a toothed cog. What makes this drill press neat is the size of the drill bit it can take, and yet also drill safely. Because it has a smooth pulley (for flat leather belts back in the turn of the century) if the drill bit catches, it will simply slip.

I got this drill press off my grandfather several years ago, another Railroad Machinist. At first I had no interest in it, but after he died, I dug it out of the weeds in back of my house and started to rebuild it. All it took was some Scothbrite Pads and some WD-40 to knock the rust off and this drill press was operational. I doubt I will use it a lot, but figured out of respect for my Grandfather, I would install it in my new shop nonetheless.

If anyone knows anything more about this drill press, I would love to find out more. My web serches have all come up short.
