Purchased at auction in November 2019. The mill originally saw production service with the Penn Reels Company manufacturing brass parts for fishing reels. The mills original variable speed mechanism was removed by the company's maintenance department and it was configured as a single speed, single purpose mill. The production feed rack and pinion system was removed and I made a new feed screw, crossnut, feed dials, and installed used ball and knob handles. The mill was disassembled, cleaned, paint stripped from machined surfaces, then lubed and reassembled. A VFD was installed to control the 3 phase, 3/4hp Marathon inverter duty motor installed by Penn Reels making up for missing variable speed mechanism. Additionally, I made a missing arbor nut and replaced the overarm support arbor support bushing. I've had the Rusnok vertical attachment for a while but was an available catalog option for the mill. Finally, I made an arbor and tool support rack to hold accessories and tools and added a Vimco machine light. Moving it to a basement shop was a challenge as the mill weights in excess of 800lbs. The cast iron base seemed like the heaviest component but was manageable with an appliance dolly, two men, some levers and a little luck. If it ever has to come out, I'm going to find some riggers and recommend a stair climbing dolly!
