Purchased from a friend 20 years ago. The lathe was in his garage which partially burnt down. The lathe was not damaged to bad but the aluminum military data/ lube plates were damaged along with the drive belts. The 3/4 HP 208 3-ph was replaced with a 2 HP 115/230 1- ph motor. The lathe was built for the U.S. Army to be used in the Machine Shop Truck M16A2. The tail stock end of the bed/saddle had a ball swivel allowing the lathe to flex when the truck was moving. The ball was tightened once the vehicle was stationary. Note the Ordnance Cross Canon car-touche at the end of the S/N.
Many thanks to John Knox for his article "Sheldon Lathe Nomenclature, Model Designators, Serial Numbers, Special Codes and Other Tidbits".
