This shaper was originally accuried by Arthur Fuege. He picked this machine up from a mill shop in Chambersburg, PA in the summer of 2005. It was sold to him as a spindle sander, but it will accept 1 1/8" cutterheads, and has 6" under the nut. Someone replaced the original motor with a fairly new 3HP three phase motor. It has a fence/jig on the table that was made by CO Porter.
In December of 2005, Arthur donated this machine to the Agrirama Museum in Tifton, GA. Keith Rucker restored the machine in the spring of 2006 and it currently awaits a reversable countershaft so that it can be belted up to the line shaft in the museum Variety Works - a ca. 1910 woodworking shop.
The shaper, while badged Atlantic, has been found in an 1897 L. Power catalog. Considering there have been several other L. Power machines found that had bolt on Atlantic badges, it can only be assumed that this shaper was originally made by L. Power but maybe sold by Atlantic.
