The Atlantic Works was a Philadelphia factory that made woodworking machinery from about 1869. The "Atlantic Works" name was sometimes also given on the machines' name plates. The Works was operated by a succession of firms, including

The name Atlantic Works Inc. has been seen as early as 1892 and as late as 1912. Atlantic Works frequently put their name on products made by other companies, including Levi Houston Co., Bentel, Margedant & Co., and especially L. Power & Co.

  • 1894 catalog from Atlantic Works, Incorporated.
  • The Annual Reports of the Navy Department for 1897 reports that in July 1896, Atlantic Works, Incorporated bid on supply materials to a Pennsylvania naval yard.
  • The July 1903 issue of The Packages has the following item.
    The Atlantic Works Incorporated, successors to the Berry & Orton Company, is inaugurating a number of Improvements to its Gray's Ferry road plant. Work has commenced on the erection of a two-story factory building, 180 by 63 feet in area, a blacksmith shop, 32x32 feet, and a boiler house 28 by 50 feet The Atlantic Works Incorporated are extensive manufacturers of machinery for working wood, including adjustable band saws, hollow chisel mortisers, etc., and have an excellent trade with box makers.
  • The Smithsonian Institution Library lists a catalog with author "Atlantic Works, Incorporated / Berry & Orton Company". It is not known if the catalog actually gives both names like this.
