Comments:
This unusual cast-iron pedestal base, column and table was found at a recent auction near Lancaster, PA. It turns out to be the lower half of a 'Four Spindle Sensitive Drill' Press made by the Sigourney Tool Company, in Hartford, CT. Three illustrations of this press (ads from 1903, 1909 and 1923) can be seen on the 'Image Tab' of the Sigourney page. However, a more detailed illustration, with specifications, can be seen in the 1911 Pratt & Whitney General Line Catalog, pages 182-183: http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/1412/15193.pdf

The table measures 12" x 34" and has a casting date (?) of S-1-11. The 'collar' that connects the table to the column is 8" tall and 1/2" thick. The spun cast-iron column is 4&3/4" x 40" tall, and the cast-iron base has an outside diameter of 21&1/2". Needless to say, this rascal is quite heavy! One can only imagine how much it weighed with the four-spindle drill head in place...
