I bought my Hebert for $50 about ten years ago. I use it regularly and at the moment it's my only planer.
It came on a stand built by a previous owner. He put the motor under the planer on a shelf hinged from the outfeed end, with the height at front end adjustable with a long screw in order to tension the belt. This arrangement worked great and I could crank the motor handwheel with my right hand while I changed the cutting thickness with my left.
The old stand is 29" by 15", 28" high with the shelf about 17" from the top, made from 3/4" pine mortised and tenoned together with some reinforcing bolts. The elevating screw was adapted from some other old machine.
I recently replaced that stand only because it wasn't long enough to fit a small sander along with the planer so I made smaller ones for both to fit the same space. The drive for the planer works the same as the old one but with a cheap automotive gas spring instead of the screw.
