Timesavers Model 252 52" Dual Head Wide Belt Sander
Aloha,
This is my sander and its in my shop. It found me while I was looking for another machine. So many times it happens that way; the other machine was sold but in the ensuing conversation the dealer offered me this machine and I declined, then he came down $4000 (which ain't bad for the first conversation). I was actually looking for a single head machine like this but had trouble finding the right machine that wasn't completely worked. The dealer is in Boston but he had a heart for Hawaii and convinced me this was in great shape. After a few contacts I trusted him and it is true this one was in very good condition. He made me a great deal and wound up being very cooperative in crating and shipping so I knew this deal was meant to be. Shipping was an issue because it would barely fit into a container after crating and also weighs about 7700 lbs. But with some cooperation we got it worked out to fit. So the 2 head machine actually moved us across a big threshold of making the jump to 480 volt power. We were already approaching the max on our 208 service. Now our shop is in an industrial area with about 200 businesses and no one else had/has 480 power although it is was available. That whole process took almost a year from the time this machine found me until we installed it. The permit process on Maui is very crazy and I finally had to have an architect walk the plans through for me. I now have my very own telephone pole! It was worth it and now I am so glad we have high voltage, our other machines like it too.
This sander is a big workhorse in our stable, and the largest one on the island. It has a 40HP on the front large contact roll and a 30HP on the platen head, a 2HP on the conveyor and 3/4HP motor for the powered raise/lower. It was amazing that after a trip from Boston to Maui this baby was still in very close tolerances. It took me 2 1/2 days to install which is pretty good for a machine like this. Ive been told that the factory guys take a week to install a new one, but I dont know if that is really true or not. Anyway the installation/setup went very smoothly. This one is so much smoother and quieter than the little 18HP sander we had before. It was December 2004 when we put it on line and she has done a lot of work for us. Our first sanding job was waiting for us to get setup; a load of mango slabs for a customer and I could see on that very first job that we had a winner. I feel like I am still getting to know this machine but I am very impressed with it so far. This one has electronic tracking and this is one of the flagship models that really helped build that company.
Aloha,
Chuck
