Porter 715A Surfacemaster was the highest evolution of the Porter Facer series.
700, 710 were earlier generations, and as good, but more common in the Porter line was the 715 model.
This one is 4 knife round head, 36" wide.
This unit was found in the back of an unused dry kiln at the Bridgewater Furniture Plant, Bridgewater, VA in 2005.
It had been there for 20 or 30 years or so along with a Whitney S-480 planer.
These machines together once pre-surfaced all of Bridgewater's lumber.
They had been replaced by an Oliver Straight-a-Plane, and languished in the dry kiln shed.
They were covered covered by a huge layer of pigeon droppings.
Nothing a pressure washer couldn't handle.
The machine was in great shape.
Cleaned up, it was a like new machine in many ways.
Cutterhead started right up, ran smoothly and the feed mechanism was all good.
A guy from OK came in and got it along with a Woods moulder.

Opened all the way up, but most were run on 1 to 2" lumber almost exclusively
