This machine was purchased new in 1980 from Northfield by a local lumber company near Columbus, Ohio. It was in pretty rough condition when I started restoration. I disassembled and stripped it to bare metal, reprimed and painted it. All of the fasteners have been replaced with stainless steel and all the electrics replaced. The new motor is a Baldor 5hp single phase with a GE size 2 starter. I have a new Byrd tool shelix helical carbide insert cutterhead on order along with all new bearings and seals. The tables were in good condition so I hand lapped them with diamond abrasive plates starting with 220 and working up to 1200. It is essentially a new machine. Northfield was kind enough to supply me with a set of new warning plates and logos to complete the restoration. The photos show it prior to installation of the new cutterhead. This was a labor of love. The machine is a joy to use. They truly just don't make them like they used to. The beauty of restoring a Northfield is that they can supply any part you may need. My restoration paint work is a bit different than originally supplied, because the factory sprays the assembled unit, but I masked and sprayed each piece completely disassembled. It's a nice touch since it allows me to show off all those stainless fasteners. The original manual appears to be hand typed and includes some handwritten notations from the manufacturer.
