Purchased from a furniture factory in TN, summer of 2004.
Motor is a 5 HP S.A. Woods Machine Co., 220/440 3-phase with interchangeable arbors. Motor had been rewound straight 440 V with open bearings and grease fittings. To put saw back in operation, motor was rebuilt with dual voltage leads and sealed bearings. The rack and pinion fence had been repaired and maintained poorly. It also received some work, fence was replaced with a piece of machined carbon steel and locating holes for pins were rebored in alignment with blade. At some point original starter(Cutler-Hammer)was replaced with a Furnas and an emergency stop button was added.
Saw is used daily and produces a superior cut. If workpeice is jointed and true, saw blade will leave no marks or scrub. Even 16" blade(maximum)raised to full height of 4" will rip through hard wood easily.
Table has optional F9 extension mounted to right side for rip capacity of 36".
Model Q have a manual brake lever that is attached to a shoe covered with a piece of leather attached with brass rivets. When lever is pulled upward shoe rubs against arbor washer slowing blade down to a stop.
