Another porter 300 jointer which I have found in my travels. Sigh, it is not mine either. I just got to druel over it and take the photos. At any rate, it can be argued that this is the finest jointer ever made. I would tend to agree with that. Few jointers that I can name are better than this one. It has the best engineered spring jointing sytem that I have found. Note that the infeed table sits on a two part wedge. These are connected with a pivot pin just in front of the cutter head. You can lift the table up and down from the front using the spring joint and adjust hardware. Pretty Trick! The cutter head yoke is also on a pivot in the back. Up front is a set screw that I can adjust to change the relative tilt of the cutter head. This way, I can tram the cutter head against the outfeed table. Then I can use the front adjust screw to set the infeed table in plane with the outfeed table. Very quick and accurate. One of the largest jointer cutter heads spins in precision bearings which are in an oil bath. I can litterally change the oil in this jointer. Most were direct drive leaving the cutter head speed at scync speed. This one has a belt drive motor and can drive the cutter head at about 4500 RPM. The guard is also trick. It swings out of the way, up and then over. So I can get the guard out of the way for service work or should I try to run it without the guard for some reason. The yoke also contains an integrated dust spout giving this jointer some of the best dust collection out there. All in all, a most excellent jointer.

Front view of restored jointer. Color not original, but works quite well, don't you think?
