The Tannewitz Model M is perhaps the first generation of what we now know commonly as a circular miter saw (CMS). I have wanted to acquire one ever since Dave Potts posted a print from an old catalog dated 1925 (http://www.owwm.com/PhotoIndex/detail.asp?id=78). I spotted this one in an online auction and got it for $25.

Unlike today's miter saws, this saw is made almost entirely of cast iron, including the blade guard. Note the angle scale scribed directly into the table. The arbor is driven by two belts from a 1HP 3PH motor (which in this appears to be a replacement). The original motor mount is set in a pair of dovetail ways. This allowed the belt tension to be easily adjusted. It is intersting to note that this saw has a provision for dust collection. There is a port to the rear of the blade with 2" hose flange at the end. Unfortunately, the fence is mostly gone. Only the two mounting points at each end remain.
