Purchased on ebay in UK - forgot to ask previous owner about the history!
DP220 head casting is of the pre-1947 type i.e. with the cast lugs to retain the return spring casing, replaced in by 1947 (or earlier) with screws. Sold by Gaston E. Marbaix Ltd (order number 1978) in London. Marbaix was established in 1915 but incorporated in UK only in February of 1944. So the machine should date from 1944-1947. Grace's guide shows a 1943 leaflet mentioning Tauco Drill presses, and a 1945 leaflet has a picture of the floor standing DP220. Tauco was established 1939.
Some repairs required. Damaged parts are one spindle bearing, spindle collar missing, motor pulley damaged, all bearings dry, depth indexer not original. Refurbishment in progress using parts from un-numbered second machine with identical castings.
Intact paint underneath front pulley guard reveals light grey with a touch of blue which has been visually matched with Hammerite white/black/blue paints (see pic 4)
