I recently got this lathe out of a building in Chicago that was built in 1893.chicagos first iron frame high rise.the columns and trusses are wrought iron.this lathe was in a old camera shop that used to be in there.i joined the sheldon group on yahoo and found a man by the name of John Knox.he worked for sheldon for a very long time.he knows everything about these.the serial on mine is L512.so it's the 512th lathe the company produced.he told me it is on of the first of its kind.underdrive in the cabinet.i believe it is still running on original g.e.motor.it does have some issues however.first off the pinion gear on the back gears has 8 out of 24 teeth left.thats probably my biggest problem.came with no spindle quill in tail stock.i may have found a tail stock to take parts from.it is on its way.its a bit newer so I am praying the parts are compatible.the one I'm getting fell off back of lathe and bent hand wheel leadscrew.next I'm missing one tooth on my bull gear.thats fairly easy to fix if I can't find one.also no tool post or centers.i was lucky enough to find a 4 jaw chuck on it.so if anyone has any parts or leads on parts I would be forever grateful.
