My brother got this jointer for me a few years ago at auction in a very weathered grate. The jointer was well covered in Cosmoline and appeared to have been put into storage years ago. Stickers on the grate testified to the fact that the jointer had spent the last 30 years being shipped to and from Army bases all over the US. At some point a metal sign was attached to the grate designating the jointer as "Unserviceable." While cleaning off the Cosmoline, I began to think it was odd that a 30+ year old machine didn't have any signs of wear. When I went to wire the jointer for some test cuts I realized why the jointer was in such prestine shape. It had never been hooked up...When I called Northfield, I was told the jointer was part of an order placed by the Army at the end of the Vietnam war that had never made it over seas and my mystery started to make sense. The only damage to the jointer was to the one handle on the elevation wheel which was sticking out of the grate and at some point had been broken off. Thanks to Northfield for providing a new handle and all the background information.
