I bought this biggie in a very dilapidated condition. I cast new tables, easy enough we have a foundry a couple of streets away. Cleaned it up by removing many coats of paint. The grey you see is the cast iron itself. New massive bearings were installed. A new 2hp motor on 220 was hitched up.....Nope, couldn't get the discs to start up fast enough. The original motor, a Bull, is 1½ but on 3 phase and 600 volts. Couldn't figure it out.
My company flourished and eventually we got 3 phase power. Finally started the sander...
Scary, let's get those guards made up! (I only had a very ugly protector made up of ¾ plywood. For good dust removal, aluminium is king. That's where I got a wallet lobotamy: ouch! Well, was worth it. I copied the hoods on the design of my small 15 inch Oliver.
The beast is MAHVELOUS! I also had the discs balanced, ouch! ouch! It runs as smooth as a 12 cylinder engine.
