These Nye Co. manufactured wire band saw guards are labeled 'Jones Guards/Patent Applied For/Man'f' By The Nye Co/Buffalo NY'

They are on a circa 1890-1910 S.A. Woods band saw. This saw is believed to have been used in the Charley Rodgers water powered mill in Middlebury, Vermont, in the first half of the 20th century, then purchased in a lot of machines by Theron Wolcott Mill Work circa 1960. I used this machine in that shop in the 1970's. When the shop closed down in 2005 or 2006 I purchased several of the machines including this one. It seems likely to me that the guard has been on the machine for most of this period, perhaps not all. When purchased by me and when in use by me in the Wolcott shop earlier the saw also had shop made back guards.

No photograph of the bottom guard is shown. Similar to the top guard, I will photograph it when possible.
