I bought this machine at an auction. The machine was originaly owned by Conestoga Wood Specialties. It shipped from Northfield without a fence, guard, motor, pulley, or electrical controls.
They added an SCMI fence, which is a very nice fence. Good fine adjustment, nice guard and a holdown are all part of the fence. It is a pretty beefy aluminum casting with wood faces for the fence. According to Northfield, the machine shipped with a 1.5" diameter spindle, but it now has a 3/4" spindle. No runout at all in the spindle, so I don't know what they did with the original spindle, but I am guessing they turned it down to 3/4".
Has a 7-1/2 hp Toshiba 3 phase motor made in Hosuton Texas. Looks like a very good motor for the shaper. The electrical controls are quite impressive on this machine. I did not preview the auction, and I was guessing that the enclosure was just a disconnect. When I got it home, I discovered that the AB enclosure includes a rather sophisticated motor controller. Has braking and soft start capability. They have it wired for some sort of pneumatic device, but I don't know what it was.
The machine has a little wear and tear on the paint, but otherwise looks very nice. I plan to add a feeder, and I might think about getting a 1-1/4" spindle for it instead of the 3/4" spindle. Weighs about 1000lbs and I unloaded it from the back of my truck with an engine hoist. I can't wait to try this thing out.
