Scanning craigslist I saw a listing for a "joiner" and the owner listed the make as unknown. I immediately recognized that it was a Northfield 12" jointer (not joiner) and the asking price of $650 was well below the auction prices I've seen recenty. Lucky for me nobody else picked up on the listing, jointer mispelled and no maker cartainly helped my situation, before I could drive to Gainesville, GA and pick it up along with help from Jeff Smith and his fat bottomed hoist. The jointer is from the late 30's or early 40's and was bought by a millwork shop where it reamined there it's entire life. No longer doing millwork the owner needed to let it go while he moves his shop. It now resides in my shop. A cabinet maker I know wanted my Delta 8" jointer so I sold it to him for $650. Even Steven for me and he was happy to get it. I wasn't planning doing any more restorations until I get more shop space, but when a 12" jointer that has a footprint no larger than your 8" and is a no money trade you have to jump on it.

Restoration was nothing more than a take apart, clean, wire brush, spot prime, repaint, and reassemble. The direct drive is so smooth I can balance a nickel on it while running. All that is left is the guard which is at the welder getting repaired.
