Comments:
I bought this as surplus from Oregon State University's oceanography program where it had sat unused for years. It was originally purchased by the Singer Manufacturing Co. who once was a large military contractor. Somehow, according to "Hendeyman", it ended up in California on a Naval Submarine and from there to OSU's Oceanography program. It is a great little lathe yet quite heavy at ~3000 lbs. It still has the original DC motor generator setup that I barely understand and hope like hell that it never goes bad. The rpm range is from 3-2500 rpm infinitely variable with full power through the range. It has the Hendey reversing feed for screw cutting that makes threading a breeze. With the original drive this lathe has lots of power at slow speeds that really helps when cutting coarse threads. It came with most of the original equipment including 3-jaw and 4-jaw chucks, Jacobs rubber-flex collet chuck and collets, and faceplate. I was able to find an original steady rest from the Practical Machinist want ads. It has a D1-4 spindle nose with a #4 mt headstock and #2 mt tail. This lathe has helped me restore many wood working machines in the past few years and hopefully will continue to do so long into the future.
