Comments:
I purchased this saw from the original owner, now 93, who said he bought it in 1946 upon his release from service in WWII. The motor, huge but only 3/4 hp, had been serviced, but the saw otherwise was original. This motor, model 113.19050, appears to have the capacitor inside one of the bell ends rather than in the base as later models had. The stand, originally the long version for two machines (?), was acquired separately and was heavily rusted. Since it was in bad shape and what I really wanted was the shorter stand, I cut this one to the length desired and bolted it together with steel channel as reinforcement. I replaced the arbor bearings and installed a grounded cord and a motor-rated switch. There had been no Powr Panel or other front switch; the previous owner had reached over the saw for the switch on the motor, an approach not recommended, but he had managed that way for 60+ years. All parts of the machine have been cleaned and polished or repainted, lubricated where appropriate reassembled, and adjusted. I did not paint the trunnions, however. The saw runs and cuts beautifully. It may be a starter machine for one of my sons--after I've located a guard for it.
