I got this machine off a picker from Ohio. Came out of a house of an old timer that passed away. It is an early example with a pulley guard/cover/helmet. Very heavy embossing on the body " Canedy-Otto Chicago Heights ILL. No.32" and also with very heavy embossing "BALL BEARING" on the helmet.They're really making a statement.It has a three step pulley system and a leather strap drive belt. Also on the rear pulley is a grease cup for lubrication.The impressive thing about this machine is that it is in its orginal untouched condition. It has a General Electric 1/4 hp motor at 1725 rpm. It also has the orginal switch & cover plate. It really just doesn't get much better than this.
I like many others on this site am a wood/metal-worker but also I am a collector. I collect several different things....antique golf items,19th century art glass and art pottery and of course vintage tools. I have been involved with these collections for approx. 30 years. I don't want to tell anyone what to do with their machines but from a collecting perspective I would suggest not trying to make your vintage machine look likes it's brand new but rather preserve what you have if its functional. I know that wiring has to be replaced...and replacing that broken part is necessary. Just remember these machines are vintage or antique and they should look their age...and collectors like me will appreciate that preservation...and the machine will keep a stronger value.
