By the beginning of 1917 the Manhattan Machine & Tool Works, also known as the Manhattan Machine & Tool Co., was manufacturing a screw press that had been patented by Frank J. Jarecki, the company's president and general manager. Within a year they were also making a small surface grinder. In 1923 Jarecki bought out the company and renamed it to the Jarecki Manufacturing Co.
