This short-lived company was created about 1967 as a merger between Canadian Woodworking Machinery Co. of Toronto, and Galt Wood Tool & Machine Co. of Galt. The former company was a machinery dealer, and the latter was a tool and machinery dealer, and a maker of cutters. The resulting company located in Galt (on Beverly Street in the old Rolofsson Elevator plant).
After about five years, one of the former Galt Wood Tool & Machine principals, Bob Pulling, concluded that there were too many principals in the new company, and offered to buy the tool manufacturing and service portion of the business. The tool part of the business was the most profitable, although this was perhaps not understood by the Toronto principals. Pulling got former partner Bill Cowan out of retirement, and along with Richard (Dick) C. Stauffer, they succeeded in buying back that portion of the business. They named their new company Galt Wood Tool Co., which is still in existence on Sheldon Drive in Cambridge.
Galt-Canadian built a new plant, also on Sheldon Drive. Wilf Renner (who, with Pulling and Cowan had founded Galt Wood Tool & Machine Co.) bought out the other partners and took over. He sold out to John Bell and Flavell Barrett, probably in the late 1970s. The price must have been too high, because they went bankrupt paying Renner.
Do you have more information?
