Fraser & Chalmers Co. was founded in 1871 as a partnership between Davis R. Fraser and Thomas Chalmers. They employed 60 employees at first, rising to 1,500 by 1901. In 1901 the company merged with E. P. Allis & Co., Gates Iron Works and Dickson Mfg. Co. to form the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co.
