New York Safety Steam Engine Co. was founded in 1869 by George H. Babcock and Stephen Wilcox. They left the company in 1878 and founded Babcock & Wilcox Co. By 1890, the steam engines were being made by Nichols & Langworthy Machine Co. and sold through New York Safety Steam Engine Co.
