The Lucas Belt Sander, from a 1911 ad in the Music Trade Review
Lucas Machine Co. of Jamestown, NY, was a maker of woodworking sanding machinery that was in business between about 1909 and 1912. They made a stroke sander that was patented in 1909 by Louis Lucas of Jamestown. Four years later, he received another patent for stroke sanders, but this patent was assigned to Curtis Machine Corp., also of Jamestown. Since Curtis was founded in 1905, the most likely scenario is that Curtis Machine Corp. bought out Lucas Machine Co. sometime between 1911 and 1913.
