This company was founded in 1905, perhaps by Edward W. Curtis. By 1928 they were known as Curtis Machine Corp. The company lasted until at least 1954. They made sanding machines, especially stroke sanders.

  • An article on the history of manufacturing in Jamestown lists this firm as founded 1905. Mention of spur to "Curtis Machine Co." in 1946 Erie Railway schedule.
  • Ad in 1955-56 issue of Hitchcock's Wood Worker's Digest Directory.
  • We have seen several ads for used machines.
  • Edward W. Curtis of Jamestown, NY, received a pair of sanding machine patents, one of which was assigned to this company. Patents also provided the information on the name Curtis Machine Corp.
  • A patent for a multi-spindle carving machine was assigned to this firm. We have never seen one example of such a machine.
  • Belt grinder ad in September 1958 Popular Mechanics lists Curtis as the machine division of Carborundum Co.
