This company made an upcut saw. There may be a connection with Irvington, another Grand Rapids-based maker of crosscut saws.
The Grutter line of upcut saws was acquired by Northfield Foundry & Machine Co., which still makes and services these saws. See the Northfield web site for more information.

- Seen on eBay: a Grutter 14" upcut saw. The label gives the company address as 3001 Madison Avenue, Grand Rapids. The machine looks to be of 1960s to 1980s vintage.
- Information on the Northfield connection came from an oldwwmachines posting by Barry Stup.
- A patent search from 1920 onwards revealed a couple of patents to people with the surname Grutter who resided in Grand Rapids, but none of the patents is related to woodworking machinery.
