Henry L. Beach was an important maker of scrollsaws who had been in business under his own name since the late 1860s. In 1887 or 1888 he entered into a partnership with someone named Brown (Brown's identify being, as yet, unknown to us) and operated as Beach, Brown & Co. They introduced a tablesaw to Beach's original line of machinery. The business operated into 1890, but by 1891 Brown had disappeared from the scene, Henry L. Beach was again operating under his own name, and manufacture of the tablesaw had passed to Beach's son, H. W. Beach, who sold it under his own name for a few years before joining his father's business.

Information Sources

  • An 1888 tablesaw-gauge patent to Beach was assigned to Beach, Brown & Co. A non-woodworking 1888 patent to Beach was witnessed by an F. J. Brown, who may or may not be the titular Brown.
  • An 1889 article in Manufacturer & Builder features a cut-off saw from this maker. An 1890 ad in that magazine shows several machines from this maker.
