The Davis & Egan Machine Tool Co. was formed when Thomas P. Egan joined Charles Davis of Lodge & Davis in 1896, and merged their firms' lines of metalworking machinery. The Davis & Egan firm was reorganized as American Tool Works Co. in 1898.

  It was recorded in these columns lately that Mr. Charles Davis, President of the Lodge & Davis Machine Tool Co.; Mr. Thomas P. Egan, President of the J. A. Fay & Egan Co.; Mr. Robert Laidlaw, President of the Laidlaw-Dunn-Gordon Co. and Mr. Thomas McDougal, had purchased the entire stock held by the Lodge interest in the above company. Mr. Charles Davis and Mr. Thomas P. Egan are now in Chicago for the purpose of combining the large interests operated by each company in that city. They have heretofore been strong competitors, and operated the two largest machinery houses in Chicago. Their stores in other cities will be combined at an early date. The consolidation of these three companies form one of the strongest concerns in the world. The joint companies now employ over 2,000 men.

  The Davis & Egan Machine Tool Co. will continue to manufacture a high grade of tools for the production of locomotives and stationary engines, electric dynamos and motors, sewing machines, bicycles, mining and agricultural machinery, woodworking machinery, steam pumps, printing presses, etc. They propose to increase the capacity of their plant largely and to add such new lines of machine tools as will enable them to furnish the entire shop equipment from the smallest to the largest machines, Their works are being operated day and night, and an additional force of 75 men will be put on in he next ten days.

  The new company controls unlimited capital, has no indebtedness or preferred stock and will rank as one of Cincinnati's leaving industries.

  The officers of the company are: Charles Davis, President; W. H. Burtner, Vice President; B. B. Quillen, Secretary.

  The firm of Laidlaw-Dunn-Gordon Co. made air compressors and related machinery.
