Description:
For sale is a heavy-duty, industrial Yates-American Y36 36-inch band saw. This is the highly sought-after "Snowflake" model, named for the ornate, spoked cast-iron wheels that are a hallmark of pre-WWII American machinery.
This particular unit has incredible provenance, featuring an original U.S. Navy (U.S.N.) inventory tag, suggesting it served in a naval shipyard or repair facility. It also retains its original, raised-letter Yates-American cast-iron emblem.
Features & Specs:
• Wheels: 36" Diameter with the iconic "Snowflake" spoked design (intact). • Frame: Massive one-piece cast iron—no visible cracks or welds. • Provenance: Original U.S. Navy brass inventory tags and manufacturer emblem. • Motor: Large rear-mounted industrial motor (tag in photos). • Condition: "As-Is" / Project. The machine is structurally complete with a heavy patina/surface rust. We have not tested the motor or bearings; it is being sold in unknown working condition. • Weight: Approximately 3,500 – 4,000 lbs.
Note to Buyers:
This is a "forever" machine for a collector or a timber framer. These saws are famous for their vibration-free operation once restored. It is missing some minor guards/covers common for this age, but the "bones" are exceptional.
Loading/Transport:
We can load up, no problem - but freight is the buyer’s responsibility. Sold FOB our yard in Eugene, Oregon. Given its height, a drop-deck trailer or lowboy is highly recommended. |
